About AfC Fostering
Achieving for Children Fostering provides foster care services for Kingston, Richmond and Windsor & Maidenhead Councils.
We’re unique: we’re an independent fostering agency owned by the three councils. Achieving for Children, our parent company, is a successful not-for-profit social enterprise running all social care services for children in the three boroughs. This ensures we continue to work closely across the various teams so we can all best support children and families.
Our organisation is unique. As a foster carer with us you get the best of both worlds: you will be first in line to have local children matched and placed as you’ll be an in-house carer. You’ll also be part of a fast developing independent fostering agency which is looking to innovate and develop a wide range of fostering services. This makes us different from other Independent Fostering Agencies (IFA's). We are not-for-profit and like other IFA's, we are here for our foster carers and the children they care for.
Following inspections in 2019 and 2023, we are judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted.
With AfC, vulnerable children have a voice. They help to shape our services. The same is true for everyone on our team – including our all-important foster carers.

Commitment to equality and diversity
Our IFA is committed to ensuring that equality is at the heart of our practice and is embedded in our policies, practices and approach. We acknowledge and embrace the diverse community in which we operate and the diverse community of our employees, service users and network. We are committed to ensure that we practise under the Achieving for Children Equality and Diversity Policy, that our daily decisions, organisational planning and staff structure are diverse and reflective of our community.
We promise that all staff and carers will engage in mandatory equality and diversity training, unconscious bias training, and engage in regular conversations through peer and group supervision, one-to-one supervision and support groups.
Our service will ensure and be committed to promoting a person’s sense of identity, taking into account each child’s and young person’s own race, culture, religion, gender variance, sexuality, geographical origin and ability is carefully and thoughtfully considered while they are in the care of our service. We are committed to challenge those individuals or groups that discriminate against others for these reasons and to promote educating anyone willing to learn and embrace the diversity of others.
Ofsted inspection report
We are judged ‘good’ by Ofsted. We were inspected in Kingston and Richmond in 2019 and in Windsor & Maidenhead in 2021.
The 2019 report highlighted the outcomes achieved for children and young people, stating that the ‘service provides high-quality foster care placements. The outcomes for children and young people are very positive. They develop secure attachments with their foster families and have a very strong sense of belonging.’
