Clerks for school governing boards

If you are looking for a position that offers flexibility, variety and the opportunity to learn new skills, then this could be the role for you. We are always seeking interested applicants for the role of clerk governance professionals across our schools in Kingston and Richmond.

This is the perfect position for someone seeking a flexible role that allows them to work at times that suit them, with the opportunity to fit the job around their other life commitments. The position is part-time during school term times with scheduled meetings held mostly in the evenings or negotiated at local level. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn new skills, to understand more about the educational system and to become a valued and integral member of a school’s governing board. 

The role is mainly home-based with a requirement to attend schools for onsite meetings. 

Knowledge of school governance would be an advantage; however, this is not essential as training and support will be provided. 

The role:

A general job description can vary, however overall the role is:

  • To provide procedural, regulatory, and governance advice to the school governing board 
  • To develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including headteachers and the chair of governors 
  • To organise and attend governing board/committee meetings and to produce clear and accurate minutes
  • To support stakeholders with a range of administrative tasks

Ideally you will have the following attributes:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • The ability to relate to and communicate effectively with people at all levels
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • A self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently, autonomously and as part of a team
  • The appetite to learn new skills and an interest in keeping abreast of developments in education
  • Clear and concise communication skills and capable of producing written content to a high standard
  • The ability to build and maintain professional working relationships
  • The ability to use Google, MS Word, Excel and video conferencing platforms
