Achieving for Children's biggest night of the year!

Recognising, encouraging and rewarding our achievements

The AfC annual Celebration of Achievement Awards event brings together the most amazing group of children, young people and professionals. We will celebrate the extraordinary achievements across key areas and recognise the outstanding achievements that have been made by everyone, whether this is achieving excellent exam results, making a contribution to the community, doing well in sport, or making personal progress by improving their own development, self-esteem or sense of wellbeing.

The awards will be presented on Monday 28 October for older children and care leavers, and everyone will receive a golden certificate highlighting one of their best achievements of the past year.

In addition there will be a number of special categories where children, young people and professionals can be nominated for a special award. These will be judged by senior managers and Children in Care Council members.

Categories for awards    

Social workers, personal advisors, foster carers, children and young People can now submit their nominations. At the end of the eligibility period (Friday 30 August) the Star Awards will then be voted by the AfC Celebration of Achievement Judging Panel to determine the winners from the shortlisted nominees. 

Children and young people 5-25

• Positive Contribution - Young people who have given their time and effort to make a positive contribution to others, at school, in their homes or in the community
• Positive Change and Enthusiasm - Young people who have made a conscious effort to make positive change in their lives
• Inspirational Role Model - Young people who are leaders of tomorrow
• Young Person of the Year - Celebrates a young person who despite facing challenges has succeeded against the odds on their journey through care
• Children in Care Council Award
• Exceptional Achievement in Education and Training - Young people who have achieved academically, worked hard or demonstrated improvements in their academic results despite facing challenges
• Exceptional Achievement in Work and Employment - Young people who have achieved in the workplace, worked hard and demonstrated personal success
• Personal Development - Young people who have shown improvement in their own personal development and independent skills during the past 12 months
• Excellence in Activity - Young people who have undertaken activities, such as sports, music, art and dance with excellence, commitment and passion
• Excellence in Perseverance - Young people who have continued to achieve despite difficulties, failure and opposition

These awards are to celebrate and encourage our younger children. Simply email Chris McPhee with their name, age and reason for nomination

• Foster carer of the year
• Social worker of the year
• Personal adviser of the year
• Supported accommodation team of the year
• Support worker of the year (includes outreach and key workers)
