Kingston Local Area SEND inspection
We are pleased to share the published final report following our recent Ofsted and Care Quality Commission (CQC) SEND inspection of the Kingston upon Thames Local Area Partnership.
Carried out in June 2026, the inspection evaluated how the partnership, which includes Achieving for Children (AfC), the NHS South West London Integrated Care Board, and Kingston Council, works together to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families.
The local area secured the strongest possible outcome under the Ofsted and CQC framework, and we are delighted that the report highlights the positive experiences and outcomes for children and young people with SEND in Kingston, reflecting the hard work and dedication across our entire partnership. Inspectors found that children and young people with SEND, and their families, are prioritised in Kingston, and that their interests are typically put first.
Councillor Sue Ansari, Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said:
"This is a really positive report, and it reflects the hard work of everyone across our SEND partnership in schools, health services, social care and, most importantly, alongside families themselves.
Inspectors saw a positive partnership that listens to children and young people and puts their needs first, which is exactly what we want to achieve. Our aim, together with AfC and our health partners, has always been to make sure children and their families get the support they need to live happy, healthy and successful lives. I want to thank everyone who has helped make that happen.
We also recognise there is more to do, particularly on waiting times for some health services. We're committed to working with our partners to close that gap, so every child and young person with SEND gets the timely support they deserve."

While celebrating these positive findings, we remain fully focused on addressing our key areas for development, particularly around reducing waiting times for specific health assessments and strengthening commissioned therapy services, as we update our strategic plans.
