Kingston’s and Richmond’s Director of Children’s Services moves on to pastures new
Robert Henderson, the Director of Children’s Services for Richmond and Kingston councils and Deputy Chief Executive for Achieving for Children, will be taking up a new role as Executive Director of Children, Families and Education at Croydon Council from 14 December.
Rob joined Richmond Council over 10 years ago as a social worker and then as the Youth Offending Service Manager. Following this, he progressed to the Assistant Director of Preventative Services.
In 2014, when Kingston and Richmond councils established Achieving for Children, he became Deputy Chief Executive.
More recently, in October 2016 he was also appointed as Director of Children’s Services for Kingston and Richmond. In this post he has been responsible for children’s social care, early help and educational services for both boroughs.
From 14 December, Rob will move to be the Executive Director of Children’s Services at Croydon Council.
Robert Henderson said: “It’ll be a big wrench for me to leave Richmond and Kingston, where it’s been a genuine privilege to serve as Director of Children’s Services. I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many great colleagues over the years, and I’m sure AfC will continue to go from strength to strength. While it’ll be sad to say goodbye, I’m excited about the new opportunity in Croydon and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Cllr Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: “I would like to thank Rob for his immense contribution to Richmond Council, and in particular the role he has played in improving the lives of children, young people and their families. I would like to wish him luck on his new role at Croydon Council.”
Cllr Liz Green, Leader of Kingston Council, added: “We will be sad to see Rob go, but would like to thank him for everything he has done for the council over the years and for playing a key role in helping shape children’s services in Kingston.”
Richmond and Kingston Councils will work together to agree the future arrangements for the Director of Children’s Services.
